Me dam me phi is an important festival of the Ahom people celebrated in the month of January to show respect to the departed ancestors and remember their contribution to the society. The Ahoms are the largest mongoloid community in Assam.
Got a chance to attend this festival this year which is organised in the outskirts of our town. For most people though, this festival is all about the food especially the pork dishes! It was a nice experience, the location was serene and the food was delicious.
Betel nuts, Puffed rice and eggs being offered at the ceremony
The priest offering prayers
The pork being readied!
The cooks prepared pork curry, mixed vegetable, daal and rice all in wood fire which makes everything tastes so much better!
Most probably this is Syzygium grande also known as Sea Apple
Views around the festival ground
lovely photos……..
